When I agreed to act as a summer field research assistant in Italy for my girlfriend, I imagined endless long hot days under a baking sun and bright blue sky… a postcard image shattered by the recent wild storms! Torrential rain with rolling thunder and strong winds has stopped any boat work, so when the storms finally subsided, I had a great chance to explore this week’s theme of reflections!
I’m keen to improve on my street photography, so as soon as the rain stopped I hit the town, as even the deeper puddles quickly evaporate in the hot Italian sun. This theme has also made me more observant of my surroundings, trying to find natural scenarios where I can capture interesting reflections, such as those in a forgotten pair of sunglasses or on the sea. I am fairly pleased with the results and will definitely make more of an effort to capture more natural reflective moments in future.
Below is a selection of my favourite photos from exploring the wet streets of Santa Margherita Ligure and Camogli beach. All the photos were taken on the Fuji X-Pro2 0r X-T1 with either the Fuji XF 23 mm, XF 56 mm or the Samyang 12 mm.
