Time for the second big trip of the year (see the Italian blogs…), exploring the sensational sights of California! Starting at sea lion-stuffed Santa Cruz, driving down Route 1 through redwood groves and heading inland from sunny Santa Barbara to Mojave. From this dusty town (with surprisingly shiny futuristic spaceport) we headed north up through the East Sierra to the abandoned gold mining town of Bodie, and the glorious Yosemite valley.
After a week hiking and hot-tubbing in Yosemite, we headed back to the coast for a stay in Monterey Bay for the incredible marine life and then a last few days in San Francisco before returning home again. This roadtrip hit quite a few milestones for a holiday, we got through dozens of burgers, 1500 miles of road, 2500 photos and 1 proposal (#shesaidyes!)
What a trip! Far too much to fit in a single blog post, so in this first article I will be covering the first part of the journey roadtripping from classic USA coast in Santa Cruz, driving down Route 1 to Scandinavian-flavoured Solvang, *spoiler* if you like marine life keep scrolling!
